1st & 15th Day of Lunar Month

The 1st and 15th days of the lunar month have special significance to the Chinese. On these days, some Chinese avoid meat in their food and consume only vegetables - thus these two days are commonly referred to as vegetarian days. On these days, the more religious Chinese will go to the temple to pray. Hence, the calendar of 1st & 15th days of the lunar month is also called the Vegetarian calendar.

These two days are also important to the feng shui minded Chinese. Special occasions such as family outings, gatherings, house warming parties, house moving, etc are held on these days.

It should be noted that the 1st day of the lunar month corresponds to the astronomical new moon, but the 15th day of the lunar month do not usually corresponds to the astronomical full moon.
